Pill to Swallow

Getting your pup to swallow a pill is easier than you might think. Piper Longstocking takes three glucosamine chondroitin pills, one fish oil, and one spirulina pill each day. Here is how we do this!

First I ask Piper to sit down and tell her it’s time for her medicine. I like to let her know what’s going to happen.

Once Piper is seated, I show her the pill and ask her to, “open up”. I often help her to open her mouth then place the pill at the very back of her tongue.

Next, I close her mouth and lift her snout toward the sky. I gently hold her mouth closed while her nose is pointed upward. I then massage her throat for several seconds.

I tell her what a good girl she is and show her the next pill. Once all pills are taken, she gets a hug, a kiss, and a treat!
